What you need to know…
Parenting abused, neglected, and dependent children requires specialized knowledge and skills. Normal life experience does not prepare foster parents to successfully manage the behaviors or meet the extraordinary needs of foster children.
Training which focuses on the dynamics of abuse and neglect, the child welfare system, and insight into the behaviors, characteristics, and personalities of the children who come into care is provided to all prospective foster and adoptive parents.
Applicants for both foster and adoptive parenting are required to complete at least 36 hours of pre-placement training.
